Voice-note script: first touch after connecting

The voice note after accept is the highest-leverage thirty seconds in LinkedIn outreach. Here's the script shape that works, three worked versions, and the mistakes that kill it.

Paul CassidyBy Paul Cassidy, founder of Prospectio.ai. Ex Google, Salesforce and Twilio sales leader. Updated 4 September 2026.
In short: who you are (one sentence), why them specifically (one sentence, the thing you found on their profile), what you'd like (one sentence, small ask). Thirty seconds. No features, no pitch, said like a person.

The shape

Seconds 0 to 8, who you are. “Hi {name}, Paul here, thanks for connecting. I run a company called Prospectio.”

Seconds 8 to 20, why them. “The reason I reached out to you specifically is I saw you’re building out the SDR team at {company}, and that’s the exact phase where the tools most people use start to let them down.”

Seconds 20 to 30, the ask. “If it’s useful, I’d love fifteen minutes to show you what we’re seeing work. If not, no bother at all, good luck with the hiring.”

That’s it. Stop talking.

Version for a sales leader

Hi {name}, {your name} here, thanks for accepting. I saw the post about your reply rates dropping this year, and it’s the same story I hear from most sales leaders right now. We’ve been running the numbers on what still works across about twelve thousand campaigns. If a fifteen-minute look at that would be useful, I’d be glad to. Either way, appreciate you connecting.

Version for a founder

Hi {name}, {your name} here. I’m a founder too, at {company}. I reached out because you’re about a year ahead of where we are and the way you’ve built {specific thing} is something I’ve been watching. If you’d ever be up for a quick chat, I’d like to hear how you got there, and I’d happily share what we’ve learned on outbound in return.

Version for a hiring manager

Hi {name}, {your name} at {agency}. Thanks for connecting. I saw the senior backend role you’ve had open for a few weeks. I’ve got someone finishing up at a fintech in Dublin, four weeks’ notice, strong on exactly the stack in your ad. If you’d like their profile, just say so and I’ll send it over.

What kills a voice note

  • Reading. People hear it.
  • Feature lists. Nobody asked.
  • Length. Over a minute and it’s a podcast.
  • Vagueness. “I help companies like yours” is text-message thinking in audio form.
  • Background noise. Record somewhere quiet, once.

Recording once, sending to everyone

Record your version in the shape above, leaving natural gaps where the name and company go. Prospectio clones your voice from that recording and generates a version per prospect, with their name and a company reference, sent after they accept. On our data this is the single biggest lever on reply rate: from 28.8 percent for text to 40.4 percent for video. Detail in voice and video.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a LinkedIn voice note be?

Twenty to forty seconds. Under twenty sounds like a drive-by; over a minute doesn't get finished.

Should I script it word for word?

Script the structure and the specific reference, then speak naturally. Reading verbatim is audible.

How does Prospectio send these at scale?

You record one clip in this shape. Prospectio clones your voice and generates a version per prospect with their name and company, sent after they accept. It's your voice, not a synthetic one.
