What the data says about this persona
HR directors reply at 30.8 percent and book at 4.3 percent, both marginally below the dataset average, with a €31,700 average deal. The numbers are unexceptional and the persona is still worth targeting for one reason: they were the largest category in our HR SaaS and AI programmes, which booked at 4.4 percent overall, above the cross-category average.
The pattern that shows up repeatedly with HR is that the buying group is wider than the title suggests. An HR director rarely buys alone. Talent acquisition, operations and finance all touch the decision, and the sequences that worked treated the first meeting as a discovery of who else is involved rather than an attempt to close anything.
They also reply slower than technical personas, which makes the 24-hour rule harder to hold and more valuable when you do. Across the whole dataset, replies answered within a day converted at 21.4 percent and after 48 hours at 3.6 percent.
What to put in the message
A specific pressure on their team: attrition, a hiring surge, a new office. One question about how they are handling it now.
What to leave out
Anything that sounds like a compliance product unless it is one. Also avoid asking about budget in the first exchange.
The format itself does not change by persona. Across every segment we tested, the winning first message was two and a half sentences, ended in a question, named something of theirs, said nothing about us and landed between 240 and 420 characters. That version replied at 44.5% against 18.6% for the same message with solution detail added.
Method
Figures for this persona come from 34,200 prospects inside a wider dataset of 389,890 prospects and 15,018 meetings, run for 17 clients across 41 programmes between 2018 and 2026. Prospects were split at random inside each client account, so industry, geography, seniority and company size are held constant on both sides of every controlled test. Meetings are counted at the point one was accepted in the client’s calendar; we do not track what happens after that.
Full method, all fifteen tests and the breakdowns by company size and region are on the 2026 outbound benchmarks page.
