In short: companies selling cloud platform services booked meetings at 3.5% across 117,000 prospects, 10th of twelve categories and 0.4 points below the 3.9% cross-category average. That is about 35 meetings per thousand prospects contacted.

This is meeting rate, not reply rate. It counts a meeting from the point it was accepted in the client’s calendar, which is why it is a much smaller number than the reply-rate benchmarks published elsewhere in this category. Reply rate is a leading indicator. Meeting rate is the decision.

What the data says

Cloud platform is the largest sample in the dataset at 117,000 prospects and joint last on meeting rate at 3.5 percent. Those two facts are related.

Large-sample categories in this table are the mature ones. The buyer already has a cloud provider, has had one for years, has a contract, and receives outbound about it constantly. There is no gap to fill and no problem to name that they have not already heard named.

What worked in these programmes was narrowing, not broadening: a specific workload, a specific cost line, a specific migration. The categories at the top of this table win by naming a problem. This one wins by naming a small enough piece of a problem to be credible about.

Note also the company-size interaction. Cloud sells into larger companies, and enterprise punishes generic outreach harder than any other size band: verified subject-matter fit replied at 51.9 percent against 13.0 percent on an identical enterprise sequence.

The spread from top to bottom is 5.5 against 3.5 percent, a factor of 1.6. Worth keeping in perspective: in the targeting test, the same sequence produced 13.0 and 51.9 percent reply rates depending only on how the list was built. Category matters less than how well you know the person you are writing to.

How this data was collected

117,000 prospects in this category, inside a dataset of 389,890 prospects and 15,018 meetings run for 17 clients across 41 programmes between 2018 and 2026. Prospects were split at random inside each client account for every controlled test, holding industry, geography, seniority and company size constant on both sides, and no test was called below 2,000 prospects per arm.

One thing to hold in mind. The category is the seller’s, not the prospect’s: it describes what our client sells rather than what the person receiving the message does. The breakdowns by who was contacted are on the persona, company size and region pages.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good meeting rate for cloud platform services outbound?

3.5% in our dataset, from 117,000 prospects contacted, which ranks 10th of twelve categories. The cross-category average is 3.9%. Note that this is meeting rate, not reply rate: it counts meetings accepted in the client's calendar, so it is a much smaller number than the reply figures most benchmark reports publish.

Does cold outreach work for cloud platform services?

It produced 35 meetings per thousand prospects contacted across 117,000 prospects in our programmes. Whether that works for you depends on your deal size: at a €20,000 average deal that is €700,000 of pipeline per thousand contacted, and at €80,000 it is four times that.

Is this the buyer's industry or the seller's?

The seller's. These categories describe what our clients sell, not what their prospects do. If you want the breakdown by who is being contacted, the persona, company size and region pages carry that.

How was this measured?

From 117,000 prospects in this category inside a dataset of 389,890 prospects and 15,018 meetings across 41 client programmes and 17 clients between 2018 and 2026. A meeting counts when it was accepted in the client's calendar.
